Linda Crabtree Powell

Linda Crabtree Powell is the conductor of the Oak Park & River Forest (OPRF) Sounds Good Choir. In the fall of 2016, Jonathan Miller invited Linda Crabtree Powell to launch a new choir in the Oak Park River Forest, originally Encore Illinois and changed to Sounds Good in 2019.

As a specialist in choral music repertoire, Linda works with Jonathan as they select and shape the musical programs for the fall and spring concerts. Published by GIA, Linda’s book, Compelling Choral Concerts, is a treatise on the art of choral programming.

Excelling as a musical leader, Linda has been active as a conductor, pianist and music educator. She taught at Brooks Middle School in Oak Park, Trinity High School in River Forest, and at the College of DuPage. At Brooks, Linda established the popular BRAVO! Program (Band, Repertoire, Art, Vocal, Orchestra). In addition to serving as choral/music director at Trinity, Linda conducted her high school choirs’ performances in Canada, Ireland, and Spain. Also, by special invitation, her youth choirs performed at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Linda graduated from the University of Michigan earning the degree of Bachelor of Music with Distinction. She earned the degree of Masters of Music in Piano from the American Conservatory of Music. Additionally, Linda studied piano with Mark Wessel, Dimitri Pomperno and Mary Sauer of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She was a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome and was awarded a teaching sabbatical in Cortona, Italy. Currently, Linda serves as a Trustee on the Board of Directors for VanderCook College of Music in Chicago and is a member of the American Choral Directors Association.
