Sounds Good is what we do all year long! We are the Chicago area’s largest and fastest-growing choral program for older adults (55+), with 9 choirs in the city and suburbs.

Sounds Good Choir offers two different choirs: Sounds Good and Good Memories. Currently, we have 8 Sounds Good choirs, and one Good Memories choir in the Gold Coast. Sounds Good choirs are for adults 55+ and the repertoire, while moderately challenging, does not require prior singing experience, or the ability to read sheet music. Singers work with their conductors in weekly rehearsal to learn voice parts and a repertoire of roughly six to seven songs. Good Memories is a fun, upbeat choir for people with memory loss and their care partners to enjoy singing music together. We don’t label anyone, and no formal diagnosis is required. Our professional conductors and pianists, along with friendly, trained volunteer singers who assist as needed, make the 90-minute sessions fun and engaging. We welcome anyone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia who can attend the structured weekly rehearsals and wants to make great music and new friends!

All choirs meet weekly, for 90-minute rehearsals with physical and vocal warmups and led by professional conductors trained in specialized vocal techniques for older adults. Each session concludes with a free, public concert in each location, with an additional all-choirs performance in downtown Chicago’s renowned Fourth Presbyterian Church. Our singers enjoy a warm and supportive community of other older adults who love to sing, as well as many health benefits, such as improved stamina and breathing, and elevated mood. Our choirs provide opportunities to meet, socialize, and have fun.
