Repertoire:

Well-chosen repertoire is the musical lifeblood of every choral organization. Our conducting team works hard to seek out a range of music that fits the talents and abilities of our singers. We have regular “conductor roundtable” meetings, where we share our favorites and work as a team to shape a beautiful, inspiring concert program.

Below is a complete listing of all repertoire that our ensembles have sung since our inception in 2016. In our Fall and Spring sessions, our Sounds Good choirs primarily perform SATB works with piano; occasionally the treble parts will split, and there is sometimes an extra instrument such as flute or violin. Repertoire includes arrangements of folk music, spirituals, gospel music, show tunes, lighter classical works, and new works from contemporary composers. The Good Memories Choir usually sings SAB or 3-part mixed versions of the same songs. During our “Summer Rocks” sessions, we feature favorites from the 1950s and ‘60s, mostly in SAB arrangements; we perform these with a live rock band (except during the Covid-19 pandemic, when our band is a professionally-produced backing track). We are non-auditioned choirs of older adults, and our repertoire has suitable vocal ranges, such as soprano lines that tend not to go above the top line of the treble staff, and tenor lines that don’t go too low (as most of our tenors are female). We tend to avoid solos, concentrating our efforts on works that have rewarding things to sing in all voice parts!
