Sounds Good Choirs!

Join a choir this fall and you’ll have fun learning and rehearsing a brand new songbook. A sense of wonder and light permeates the repertoire our Sounds Good conductors have chosen. By the end of the session you’ll perform a free public concert of gorgeous seasonal music that includes John Rutter’s vibrant, modern carol, “Shepherd’s Pipe Carol,” and the pure joy and energetic rhythm of Vivaldi’s “Gloria In Excelsis.” The appealing, lyrical melody of Victor Johnson’s Kwanzaa song, “Umoja Tunaimba,” is a call for justice and peace, while Jonathan Miller’s rollicking mashup of Jingle Bells and the Hallelujah Chorus will make you smile from ear to ear. From new Chanukah music to “Winter Wonderland,” there’s something for everyone!

You’ll also discover and enjoy the warm and supportive Sounds Good community of other adults 55 “and better” who love to have fun and sing. 

Our professional conductors are experts in the training of the older adult voice, and each week they lead a fun and lively, 90-minute practice session, including vocal warmups, breathing exercises, as you learn and practice each song. So join a Sounds Good choir… learn beautiful music, make new friends, have a wonderful time!

Cost: $210 registration fee sheet music, professional direction, concerts, online practice tracks, and concerts. All singers registered for a session are welcome to rehearse and perform with as many choirs as they choose. In addition, every Friday one of our professional conductors holds an optional, online rehearsal for singers from all choirs.

Fall and Spring Sessions

During our 15-week sessions in the fall and spring, we offer 9 choirs in eight locations: eight Sounds Good choirs (Hyde Park, Gold Coast, Edgewater/Lakeview, Evanston, Oak Park/River Forest, Wheaton/Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, and Arlington Heights) and one Good Memories choir. Both the Gold Coast Sounds Good choir and the Good Memories choir (for adults with memory loss and their care partners to sing together) rehearse and perform downtown at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in the Gold Coast. The Evanston Sounds Good choir is dementia friendly.

Summer Sessions

During our 8-week Summer Rocks session, we offer 5 choirs in 4 locations:

• Gold Coast
• Oak Park/River Forest
• Northbrook
• Hinsdale

Both the Gold Coast Sounds Good choir and the Good Memories choir (for adults with early-stage dementia and their care partners) rehearse and perform downtown at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in the Gold Coast. The Northbrook Sounds Good choir is dementia friendly.
